For Good!

The antivirus for your mind. Why plateaus are an achievement rather than a failure, and how to keep what you have won.

Session 15- The "For Good" Operating System.18 min

Congratulations — you made it

You finished this program. You should celebrate. Seriously, have a 30 second dance party for yourself right now.

Simply by finishing, you are remarkable. The sad truth is that most people who buy programs like this never open them, and of those who do, few finish.

Even if you have not yet lost weight, if you did everything asked of you, this program will have prepared you for lasting weight loss. Weight loss itself is pretty useless if all you do is turn around and gain it back. This program was not created to help people lose weight. It was created so people could finally lose weight for good and never have to diet again.

About plateaus

Almost everyone reaches a point where weight loss slows or stops, and understandably they get upset. They want to get on with it. But the human body and mind are simply not designed that way.

Research shows that when people lose about ten percent of their body weight at a time, taking "plateau breaks," they tend to keep the weight off over the long term. One reason is that these breaks allow the body’s physiology to recalibrate to your new body weight. If you lose weight too fast, the body thinks you are starving — and the human body is a master of adaptation, so it adjusts to live on less food. When that happens you end up gaining weight like an elephant even when you eat like a bird.

The other reason plateau breaks matter is that, like your body, your mind needs to adjust to the change.

A plateau is something you always wanted

See your plateau as an opportunity to learn. It is remarkable how people who long to learn how to hold their body weight steady fail to celebrate when their body weight becomes steady.

It does not matter that you still have weight to lose. When you are at a plateau you have essentially achieved one of the things you have always wanted: you are holding your body weight steady.

So take careful notes. The lessons you learn in a plateau are priceless, and it is important to recognise, acknowledge and record them for future reference.

Installing the For Good! system

The For Good! operating system is the antivirus program for your mind. Once installed it runs in your subconscious and performs minor fixes before things get out of control. It runs in tandem with the Betterness® system so that you can continuously improve while keeping what you have already achieved.

This is just the beginning. The For Good! operating system needs to be constantly updated — which is the whole point. You are not finishing something. You are switching from a program with an end date to a system that keeps running.

Take these with you

  • Finishing puts you in a small minority. Celebrate it.
  • Plateau breaks of around ten percent at a time are associated with keeping weight off.
  • A plateau means you are holding steady — which is the skill you always wanted.
  • For Good! is an antivirus that runs quietly and needs constant updating.
