The skill underneath every other skill
Self-Compassion
Nobody leaves a program because of one meal. People leave because of what they say to themselves about the meal. This module is about changing that sentence, which turns out to be a trainable skill rather than a personality trait.
Everyone arrives here with the same reasonable worry: that easing up on yourself is how you stop trying. The research says the opposite, and it says it clearly enough that it is worth twenty minutes of your attention.
What the critic says
I have no willpower.
The same moment, described
This is genuinely hard, and I am learning how to do it.
The argument
One meal is one meal until you put a verdict on it.
A description tells you what happened and leaves you somewhere to stand. “I ate more than I planned. That happened.” A verdict tells you what you are, and leaves you nowhere. “I blew it.”
The second sentence is the expensive one, because a person with nowhere to stand has no reason to eat carefully at the next meal. The evening becomes the week. That is the cascade this module is built to interrupt, and it can be interrupted in about ninety seconds once you know the three moves.
Four parts, in order
Take them in sequence if you have the time. If you are here because tonight went differently than you planned, skip to the reset and come back to the rest later.
Why this matters
Five arguments, each with its source. Including the one where the evidence is genuinely mixed.
