Build the Lighthouse: Beliefs
Beliefs are the foundation your whole destination rests on. Renovating them starts, like every renovation, with demolition.
The foundation of beliefs
Your beliefs are the foundation of who you are and who you are to become. To truly become a person who never has to diet again, you need to renovate that foundation. If you really want to become the best version of yourself, this renovation is not optional.
This work is critical because your beliefs make the difference between a dream and an actual destination. When your beliefs are aligned with your vision and purpose, you will succeed.
Renovation, not new construction
The word renovation is chosen carefully, because that is literally the work. You cannot start from scratch with your beliefs. You have been downloading beliefs your entire life. You are not a blank slate — from the moment you were born, and perhaps even in the womb, your subconscious mind has been constantly building your belief system. Some of those beliefs are very good for you. Others are not.
One of the worst things you can do is build a beautiful new building on a faulty foundation. Every builder knows the most important part of a renovation is the demolition. In the demolition phase, substandard material is stripped away to make room for something solid.
It is no different for beliefs. Before a new, solid belief can be truly learned, the old, substandard belief must be unlearned. Unlearning may be the most important part of this construction project.
Why this feels overwhelming
If building an ultimate healthy, vibrant, fit destination sounds a little overwhelming, that is fine — it simply means the beliefs are where the work needs to start. Overwhelm is information, not a verdict.
Take these with you
- Beliefs are the foundation; everything else is built on them.
- You are not a blank slate — this is a renovation.
- Demolition comes first: the old belief must be unlearned before the new one can hold.
- Feeling overwhelmed is a signal about your beliefs, not proof you cannot do this.
