The Social Operating System Assessment

Four social spaces, the four questions, and your top three Rules and Rearrangements.

You did this for rooms. Now you do it for people. Four spaces, the same four questions, and at the end you pick three Rules and three Rearrangements you are actually willing to start today.

How to work through this

Do one space at a time and save as you go. Nothing here is graded and nothing is shared — this is your own working document, and you will come back to it quarterly, because networks drift.

The four questions, in their social form

Who's here? / Who's not here?

Who is present in this space around food and movement? Who is missing who would help?

Then: Who would you add to or remove from this space that would help you to eat better and/or exercise more?

Who's seen? / Who's not seen?

Whose behavior am I actually watching in this space? Whose plate is in my visual field? Whose good habits am I never exposed to?

Then: Whose behavior would you make more or less visible in this space?

Who's convenient? / Who's inconvenient?

Who is easy to spend time with here? Who takes effort? Who is easy to reach at 9pm?

Then: How would you change this space to make it more convenient to be with people who help you, and less convenient to be with people who do not?

How do the people in this space make me feel?

About food. About my body. About my chances.

Then: How would you change this space to make you feel better?

Rules and Rearrangements

A Rule is a decision you make once and then follow, so you are not negotiating with yourself in the moment. A Rearrangement is a one-time change to your conditions that keeps paying you back forever. Each space below offers examples from the module, and you can write your own.

Space 1. Home and Family

The highest-stakes space on the list. Shared kitchen, shared schedule, shared story.

The same four questions you asked of every room in the Environmental Operating System, asked now of the people in this space. Each question has a second part: what you would change. Short answers are fine.

Design at least one rearrangement for this space. A rearrangement is a one-time change to your world, so the space does the remembering for you.

Conclusion: your top three

Look back over the four spaces and choose the three Rules and three Rearrangements you are willing to start today. Three is the number on purpose. Everybody who picks twelve does zero.
