R is for R*E*A*D*Y

Readiness is not a mood you wait for. It is a set of conditions you can deliberately put in place.

R is for R*E*A*D*Y3 min

Timing genuinely matters. Starting a demanding change in the middle of a crisis usually fails, and that failure gets misread as personal inadequacy rather than bad scheduling.

But waiting for a perfect moment is its own form of avoidance, because the perfect moment does not arrive. The move is to build readiness rather than wait for it: clear a little space, line up support, reduce competing demands, get some sleep, decide what specifically you are doing first.

If you are genuinely not ready for the whole thing, get ready for one piece of it. Readiness is cumulative.

Practice this
  • List what you would need in place to feel ready. Then put one of those things in place this week.
  • Clear one competing commitment out of the way.
  • Start with the single easiest piece rather than the most important one.
Sit with this
  • Are you not ready, or are you avoiding?
  • What would have to be true for you to begin?
  • What is one piece you are ready for right now?
